The most bizarre looking plant “Hydnora Africana”

No doubt, this plant is one of the most bizarre-looking plants on Earth. The name Hydnora is taken from the Greek word, hydnon, which means fungus-like and refers to the resemblance that this species has to the fungus genus Hydnum.. The specific name africana means from Africa. It is found in African continent. The flower is spherical, brown on the outside and bright salmon to orange on the inner surface. Under favourable conditions it takes at least one year for a bud to develop into a mature flower. The plant body is completely leafless. The plant grows underground. The only portion of Hydnora that appears above the ground surfaces is the upper portion of the flower. Much of the flower is below the soil surface. The flower is thick and succulent in texture. The portion of the flower above the ground has three openings.

WiFi can be used to see through the wall

British engineers from University College London have developed a radar system that can see through walls using the WiFi signals generated by wireless routers. The system, devised by ‘Karl Woodbridge’ and ‘Kevin Chetty’, requires two antennas and a signal processing unit, and it can be place in a suitcase. Wi-Fi radio signals are found in 61 percent of homes in the U.S. and 25 percent worldwide. Unlike normal radar, which emits radio waves and then measures any reflected signals, this new system operates in complete stealth. The radar itself does not emit any signal and thus cannot be detected, making it ideal for spying or military operations.

1. MOVING SUBJECT

When Wi-Fi radio waves bounce off a moving object, their frequency changes. If, for example, a person is moving toward the Wi-Fi source, the reflected waves’ frequency increases. If a person is moving away from the source, the frequency decreases.

2. REGULAR OL' ROUTER

A Wi-Fi Internet router already in the room fills the area with radio waves of a specific frequency, usually 2.4 or 5 gigahertz.

3. BASELINE SIGNAL

One antenna of the radar system tracks the baseline radio signal in the room.

4. SHIFTED SIGNAL

A second antenna detects radio waves that have reflected off of moving objects, which changes their frequency.

5. PERP, SPOTTED

By comparing the two antennas’ signals, the computer calculates the object’s location to within a few feet as well as its speed and direction.

Scientists claim the average smoker will lose 14 years of their life due to smoking. Thirty percent of the American population is smokers. In other countries, especially developing countries, this percentage is much higher. While most people are aware of the damage that smoking does to their body, few are aware of the effects that smoking has on the environment.

Effects on skin

Because of the harmful smoke which comes in contact with the skin mainly face skin the ageing process starts and wrinkles start appearing on the skin. It also makes skin go very pale and lose its natural hue.

Cracked and dry lips are also common effects of smoking. Prolonged smoking can cause darkening of the lip color.

Effects on teeth

Smoking reduces the production of saliva and saliva is effective in cleaning teeth. Thus, the teeth will begin to be discolored.

Smoking increases your risk of getting lung diseases like pneumonia, emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

The body can be affected in many ways due to smoking, there are over 40 different chemicals in cigarettes and each is harmful in different ways.

Effects on Environment

The facts are devastating, it takes 1 tree for every 300 cigarettes that are produced while 4 miles of paper per hour are used to roll and package the ready production. If you add up all natural resources that are used during the manufacturing process, it is obvious that smoking and cigarettes are extremely hazardous to mankind and the environment. The most impacting aspect of cigarettes is actually producing them. There is the land used to grow the crops all over the world that could be put to better use by planting more trees or food for starving children in third world countries.

Air Pollution

Around 4,000 chemicals used in manufactured cigarettes are released into the air when a cigarette is burned. 

Water Pollution

Cigarette butts and filters easily make their way into streams, rivers and lakes where they can clog water intakes and pollute water as they degrade. A recent study of ocean waste, conducted in several marine regions, has revealed some disturbing results. Researchers have found out that out of the 103 million classified marine pollutants, 25 million are cigarette butts and whole cigarettes.
